Artist + Designer Ashley MacDonald is an emerging Canadian Indigenous Furniture Designer and a recent graduate of Sheridan’s Bachelor of Craft and Design - Furniture program. Ashley strives to create work, at the crux of Art and Design; equally in form of sculptures and furnishing. By foregoing traditional ideas about quiet furniture Ashley’s work is meant to command attention; highlighting the delightful human experiences we all share. Her work focuses on form, materiality, texture, purpose and adaptability to tell a story. Ashley produces work as a way of understanding and conveying collective human experiences and her relation to it. Furniture allows her a way of giving form to experiences without being to heavy while still highlighting the everyday quirkiness that is life beautiful, participatory and unexpected.
